by huge i mean huge.. and three cylinders as well.. took about ten miles to empty about a gallon from the cooling system into number 4 cylinder then into the exhaust.. then reached the point it didnt circulate and we had to stop.. lucky really a 250 mile round trip and the gasket went only fourteen miles from home.. lucky twice as well.. some large puddles near by and a couple of coke bottles to carry the puddle water in.. filled it back up left the pressure cap loose and it got us the remaining four miles to home.. time for some dirty hands and spanner work i think.. one hell of a big cloud of steam it was thow..

as a matter of interest.. about a month back i had excessive steam (white smoke) at cold start up.. a slight miss for a few seconds on number four cylinder.. the few drops of water that leaked in shorts out the plug for a few seconds.. a few revs clears this then when warm the leak stops.. i knew what it was.. bought a gasket got lazy and bunged some bars leaks in for a tempt fix.. didnt last long thow didnt it... he he.. head gaskets can fail in different ways.. the gasket can blow between two cylinder.. bad miss and no oil or water problems.. between waterways and oilways.. water in oil with no misfire.. or water into a cylinder.. most noticable when the car is cold and been stood for a few hours.. a misfire at startup and a slight loss of water and a little too much steam from the exhaust thow a certain amount during cold damp weather is normal.... eventually they fail big time like mine did.. with a pretty big loss of water.. whoops..
