It's just the cost of some carb cleaner & elbow grease...
Check for vacuum leaks, too. They give fits to these cars.
After the cheap/free stuff is all covered, then check out expensive stuff like AMM or O2 sensor.
The O2 sensor is ignored by the ECU at first, because it has to heat up. If its built-in electric heater is shot, then it'll do this until it finally warms up by exhaust heat alone. Could be a fuse, wiring, or a blown heater in the O2 sensor.
