Have you tried backing off on the AMM?

Your 88 still have the adjustable AMM, doesn't it?
Hook an voltmeter up to the O2 sensor, with the sensor DISconnected from the wire going into computer.
If the voltmeter reads 0.8V (or around there) try to adjust the screw on AMM counterclockwise until the volt drops to 0.1V Approx.
From there on adjust the AMM screw carefully clockwise until the voltage starts to osccilate between approx 0.1-0.9V
If you are capable of getting the O2 sensor to do that, I think you should be good to go with the fuel mixture.
If you are NOT able to bring the voltage down to 0.1V It's either that your mods are feeding the engine too much fuel or that the O2 sensor is bad.
