Rough day for the old SAAB. On way out of town to work, brake fluid light goes on, brakes work fine. Pull over, check level; yep, low but not real low. Decide it may be partly due to new pads w goop on back setting in (new couple days back); maybe also butt-ass cold compared to temp when I last checked. Walk around car, no drips. With spare fluid in trunk, cautiously proceed.
Brakes now feel spongy. Pull over at AutoZone and crawl under blasted car. The last wheel well I check - damn - fluid everwhere: caliper, wheel rim, tire, actual wheel well (!!!). Pull wheel. Seems to be dripping from inboard piston seal but not real sure (there's so much of it). No worky today for me, not good.
Decide faster to have SAAB tech across town eval & r/r it than tow 60mi home and DIY (then order whole caliper, since don't know exact prob myself). Call AAA. Flatbed truck comes while I'm paying bill for widget at AutoZone, promptly leaves after 30sec since I'm "not waiting for him." Call AAA again, truck returns. Dirtbag bitchn' about billing me twice yadda yadda.
Tech graciously reseals piston in couple hours - nice. Prob pinched seal when over-extended piston during pad change. Swing by dealer nearby to pick up spec ord part for diff project.
On drive home ding-a-ling blonde in a Olds Bravada rear-ends me good at a red. F*&^%. Though she popped me good, only broke chrome bumper strip and mild dent in rubber skin. Pull over and she follows. I'm fickin' hot now. She says w a straight face, "Did I bump you?" After reaming her out good in the calm but angry manner, and correcting her Mapquest map (out of towner looking for something), she offers me a check for $25. The part costs $20 (repl 2 yr ago, same event) so I say all good - beat it (before I snap).
Pulling away, nearly hit city jungle kid, after delivery truck to my left (blocking view) nearly hits him first as kid runs L to R against a red.
Have good laugh w dealer parts guy I just left by phone as I call in new parts.
After all that, older gentleman on sidewalk stands at attention and appears to salute me/car as I let gaggle of shoppers cross in front of me. OK, that was just a plain weird way to end a rough day. Maybe the old guy was Swedish? :oP
