If the head gasket is blown and the car's been sitting for awhile, the pistons might be seized in the block. OR it might have a cracked cylinder head. Or the block itelf might be cracked (unlikely though). If you can't find a good used motor out of a wreck, you might want to rebuild a worn motor that runs so you're only dealing with the usual problems associated with an engine needing rebuilding.
You've got nothing in the car right now, so rebuilding a motor can make sense financially. Since you'll need an overbore, have the engine reciprocating and rotating assemblies balanced due to the oversized piston's heavier weight. They run so beautifully when redone with a good balance job.
Then you can sell the worst of your two cars and make all your money back.
Good luck.
