a far as i know there is only one thing that does.. repeated and excessive over-chargeing.. this is an alternator fault.. mind u this is usually obvious.. your lights and everyting will brighten up a lot as u rev the engine its not really something that u can miss to be honest..

the way it works is this.. the only time your battery does much work is when u start your car.. after that the alternator keeps it all going and puts back what u used to start your car into the battery.. the alternator should know if your battery is fully charged and not overdo things..

anyway new batteries going flat does not fit in with the alternator over chargeing.. this would only happen after the overcharge has damaged your new battery.. basically your problem dosnt really make sense.. he he.. only if u are the unluckyest guy on the planet and have been getting a succession of faulty batteries..

modern batteries wear out.. in wearing out they lose their capacity.. ie.. their ability to put out the same load for a given time.. if a battery goes flat after a short time with a relatively small load.. its worn out.. but for normal useage even cheap ones should last a couple of years at least..
if yout battery guy says its dead.. as opposed to simply flat.. it isnt because of the small drain making it go flat.. course he could be just selling u batteries and telling fibs about them being worn out.. he he

worn out batteries can manage to start your car but still be worn out.. ie.. be well down on their capacity.. the only real way to test a battery is fully chage it then put it on known load and see how long it takes to go flat.. the quick heavy but short load the testing guy does is useless to be honest.. 90% knackered batteries will pass this test..
