Get a timing light to set timing. Must be inductive that hooks over the #1 spark plug wire and connects to battery for light power. Set to 16 BTDC with dist hose plugged at idle. The timing marks are visible(yeah right) through an opening in the top of the plastic flywheel and clutch cover. This cover has a line scribed into it. The timing marks on the flywheel can be enhanced with some white-out painted on the 16 BTDC line. Find the flywheel degree scale by pushing the car in 4th gear until the marks appear in the clutch cover opening.
OK, the stutter at idle might not be the timing. Maybe you are ready for a new O2 sensor and that was part of the rich running problem. Or perhaps your Air Mass Meter is bad, especially if you also notice wide idle swings when you starting a cold engine. The other thing that might be a problem is a clogged injector or two. Try a bottle of techron injector cleaner.
Clean the ground connections at the radiator crossmember, battery cables, and up on the head near the intake. Also make sure the Hall effect connector is clean at the distributor...shot of wd40. Wiggle this connector and see if the stutter appears.
You do have NGK plugs gapped to 0.024-0.028" right?
