richard,
In 1988 there was a car as you describe, not a true SPG as others have noted. These were known as Springtime In Sweden (SiS) convertibles.
In 1991 similar cars in Platana Gray (I have one of these, an auto trans) and Monte Carlo Yellow. These were known as Special Edition Convertibles.
I also have a 1991 900t convertible in black that has the same looks as the 1988 SiS, except mine as tan interior.
The photo below was taken at the 2002 Saab Owners Convention in Ohio. The car in the foreground is my 91 900t conv. The next car is the First Place winner of the Convertible category, a 1988 SiS, owned by Robert Karl. The next car in a 1993 900t convertible Commemorative Edition (CE), owned by Ken Steele. (I believe the second place winner) The next car is a 1994 900t convertible Commemorative Edition, owned by Randy Thatcher. (I believe the third place winner)
