double clutch clarification

double clutching is for downshifting, not upshifting.
upshift: clutch down, put shifter in neutral, pause a brief moment to allow gears to *slow down* to same speed, then put into next gear. wait too long or not long enough, & synchros equalize speed for you (read: wear). but do it at the right moment & no synchros needed; you get your next gear with a nice, nearly effortless feel cuz gears going @ same speed.
takes just a bit of effort to get right the first few tries, then becomes habit.
double clutching: does the same thing as the upshift pause, but here you're *speeding up* gears to get the same speed. if you don't speed up enough (rev too low), synchros match speed for you. speed up too much (rev too high), synchros match for you. speed up just right, synchros do not do work & you get the same satisfying shift feel as with upshift pause.
takes some effort to get right, then becomes habit. then learn to use brake & gas w/right foot, shift < turn, get off brake & accel. through turn.
