pay them to check it out and give u a full report.. i would not normally say do this but u seem to have a good knowledge of older cars.. have already done most things that could cause problems.. and are still totally at a loss as to whats causing your problem..

there is nothing special (unusual) about saab engines.. your car seem to be running badly wrong.. why.. should be obviouse to the main dealer who knows all the specs and have the correct equipment to check things out..

for timing and such stuff as fuel mixtures to be causing massive overheating problems the car would have to be running lousy.. even thow its been done i would still suspect the headgasket.. totaly discounting the obvious just cos it was (theoretically) repaired a while back is not always a sensible thing to do..
