Oil leaking on belts...

I noticed about a month ago that when I first started my car, I wasn't getting power from the alternator. My lights would start to dimm and when it gave it gas everything would come back to life. So after awhile I realized that if I revved the car over about 2700 rpm when I started it I would get imediate charging from my alternator. Now I had the alternator replaced about 6 months ago so I thought perhaps some belts needed tightening. When I went under the hood I realized there was a lot of fluid on my belts. I checked my oil and it was down considerably. I never had lost this much oil before. I know that the last time I got my oil changed was with a new mechanic and he uses Castrol GTX. Is this a thinner oil that is perhaps making it's way out the back of my engine? I'm sure the oil isn't doing much good for my belts and I'm not happy that apparently my belts are slipping in oil until I get the RPMs high enough for the belt to 'catch'. What's the best method of stopping this leak short term and getting my belts cleaned up? Am I looking at needing them replaced again? (I had them replace all the belts with the alternator when I had that done)

Input is appreciated. Otherwise the car is a champ considering how neglected it's been lately since I haven't been exactly rich to keep it better maintained.
