I know that the 21st century is still young but... this is a good one.
Rolling around town (Pensacola) about a month ago, I saw this 89 900s on a used car lot and I thought that it looked pretty good. Being still in love with my 85 900 base (276k) I kept moving. Another two weeks passed and it was still there, so I called about it, turns out that that the dealer was going to sell it for $2300 but some guy came to test drive it and when he brought it back, it would not start anymore. So the price was down to $675. Intriguing. I waited another two weeks and called back, the price was now $475. I went to have a closer look. Clean paint, no rust, immaculate cloth interior, aftermarket rims, Hella fog lights and Kenwood cd player and EQ. So, I did a carfax report on it, turns out, the car was made in Finland and shipped from Germany to New Jersey in 1995. No salvage title , no bad reports and only 162k on it. I figured that worse case scenario I could part it out and make a profit. I had to get it! The guy even towed it to my house for free (15 miles away). I tinkered with it for two days and realized that the fuel pump was not working. Later that evening while screwing around, with the dash dimmer switch, I heard a light hum and realized it was the fuel pump. I then tried to start the car and it fired up on the first try. Next thing I know, I'm doing 95mph down a back road. The car is perfect in every way!
Has anyone ever heard of a configuration like this before? By turning the dimmer switch counter clockwise, the fuel pump is disabled. Go figure!
