Upper control arm bushings, LH, with arm still attached

Got my 90T engineless at the moment for pinion bearings & major maint.
Bought control arm bushings for upper driver, having heard the "time" was during enginelessness.
Now having read Bently, they advise to completely remove the upper A arm to do the replacement! Sorry, but looks too painful.
Anyone replaced them "in place"? How about using a spring compressor to unload the arm, then unbolt each side & replace?
TIA,
DET
