Hey GregD,
Well I am passing the 50% mark on trans rebuild. I installed the new pinion bearings & crush sleeve, assembled per the factory manual, and torqued them using the BFwrench & cheater. My calibrated fish scale says I can turn the housing at 15-16 lbs tension. My helper & I tried to sneak up on it (had 7 lbs) but apparently it comes on fast. Factory spec. of 10-15 lbs., so I am at the upper edge, with bearings oiled. Sound OK? I was surprised how far you had to "crush" the sleeve using the pinion nut, must have moved it .050" before bearings made contact.
Once it is in, I need to take the depth measurement from the end of housing. If I can get a depth gage, should be no problem. My shims were bent & slightly mangled, so I need new ones. Is the dealer the only source? My local dealer has no clue on these older parts; everything must be ordered & waited on. Do you have a better source with parts on hand? I would appreciate a phone #, etc.
Opinion on lube for assembly? I am cleaning parts in Kerosene as recommended in factory manual, but plan to run the HONDA MTF.
Your $0.02 please.
Last, source for shifter-shaft centering spring. Your connections? Again, local dealer all but worthless here in NC.
