I currently own a '88 900T, auto trans with 150k miles. The car has had its share of repairs but it runs ok. It is like a wild mistress who needs constant care but can give you thrills when she is in the mood!!. I have seen a '93 900T, auto locally and I am tempted. I thought the knowledgeable folks here might give me sensible advice. I am not asking for opinions to project future repair performance, because it is impossible without a crystal ball.
Anyway, I will give a rundown on my car repairs that were performed locally be a mechanic who is super sharp and very fast. He also owns 20+ 900's (junk cars) and he can pull parts in a minute and replace them. Even though I am mechanically terrible, I know the mechanic will help me out, for a reasonable price.
I have replaced almost entire muffler section ( oxy sensor is still original), new rotors and brake pads, head lights, expansion tank, wiper motor, the main computer, etc. The car's acceleration is very good but the engine sounds noisy. The a/c works fine. there are rust spots over the front wheel wells and there is a small dent in the back. Front and rear bumpers show their age. Shocks are gone I think because the bumps are hard to take. tires are one year old in the front and rear tires 3 years+
I think I will part with my car for $ 1,500- $ 1,700. The '93 900 T auto lists for $ 6.4k but I can bring it down few hundreds.
Are there any specific advantages in the '93 model? Driver's side airbag? CD Player? better Radio? engine I think is still 165 hp with 3 speed auto.
Your advice will help me make up my mind.
Thanks in advance.
