what did you do about the double headed male thread and lower heater hose........If you splice the lower hose, it will look like what volvo did on there 240 turbos, but you wont get the coolent flow that you need(this is what I've been told, I wanted to try this), but then I never had a problem with over heating on my 81 240 turbo. Oh by the way if you grease the drill bit the metal shavings will stick to it, as you drill, and if you get shavings in the coolent, you wont wreak your block, but maybe the the thremosat or water pump
