Lots of slop in 17yo rear end - can wiggle rear trailing arm all around, presume spring arm/panhard not much better. Rx: re-bush rear suspension. Have fresh Kilen springs installed while apart. Simple. (front already done - yeeha)
Swing by dealer for quote to compare (you see where this is going). The service "representative" basically tells me I need fresh blinker fluid for x-hundred $. After I tell him which arms I want done by name (thinking this would make perfectly clear what exactly I wish to employ his dept to do for me), he adds, "oh, well that's about $400 and usually you need a new axle because of rust."
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm under the car a lot and the paint is barely off the axle and I don't see how I could possibly need a new one? But maybe it's a Saab thing I'm oblivious to. Please tell - do these things fail?
Ah, and they don't want to do springs - they refer that work to a place down the road. Upside: spring shop prob knows trouble-shooting and alignment better, or maybe not Saabs though. Downside: why am I paying someone to take arms apart again?! :p
Unfortunately, my trusted indie isn't too keen/interested w dinking w non-OEM springs, which I understand but it's a bummer (he's an OEM-or-nothing kinda guy). But at least he wouldn't foist a new axle on me unless it was rusted in two.
