Voltage regulator won't go in correctly

I'm currently trying to replace my volatage regulator. I got the old one off by using a right angled screwdriver due to the oil filter in the way.

The guy from Autozone to put it in at the same angle that I take it out. So I tip it forward and push it in and gradually tilt it back. It feels spring loaded and won't sit in there by itself, I have to hold it there.

Is this normal? I have no way to see if it's in there all the way.

QUESTION: When the voltage regulator doesn't have any screws in it and it attempts to jump out, is it in right? If not, how do I know when it is in correct?
