Some automotive products may swell seals, establishing a tighter seal. They are solvents that work their way into the rubber and soften them and shorten the life of the seal. They are usually marketed as "stop leak" productsand, at best, are a temporary solution. (like when you want to sell your car and stick the next victim with the actual repair). Similar to belt dressing, they soften belts, make them swell and temporarily quiet them down. You will eventually (sooner if you use belt dressing)have to change the belt. Ther are ABSOLUTELY no belt manufacturers that condone the use of belt dressing, and use of dressing voids all warranties.
Engine Flush is nothing more than a solvent being run through the engine at operating temperature, thinning up any sludge or deposits. I have used it on at least a half dozen occasions, producing the desired results. If it is completely drained while still hot, I see no way that these deposits would cool down & turn back to sludge in another, more critical location The solvents are petroleum distilates and should not be harmful to seals, but if you already have a bad seal, it may clear away any sludge & varnish from the area causing the leak to become more severe
