88 spg. Thanks to this site and twin saabs for all info. I bought new axle and inner driver. Pulled axle out slowly. All grease was rust red. One of the tripod bearings was gone-no needles left-turned to dust. Another just fell apart when I removed. Inner driver itself was ruined in each cup. Inner cv joint boot was ripped-no grease but no clunking. Some tips-don't do this on a sunday-no where to bring to press in new seal at driver housing. So, I did not replace. There is also a huge O ring that I did not know about. So, i did not replace. Also, make sure you take trans dip stick out along with it's tubing. The hell if i could get the driver and housing out without that removed-boy did i try though. To get new driver in housing, I froze the new driver and placed housing over heater for a couple hours. Slid right in with a couple taps. I then filled housing up with trans fluid to see if it would leak where i did not replace seal. Put in freezer-nope. Put on heater-nope. So, I reinstalled everything. Just got back from all sorts of driving and no leaks-I got lucky. Will see how long it lasts. Also, check townsends site. Which I did not do until 3\4 done. Wish I would of. Also, haynes has a pretty good guide also, for once. I can't believe the difference. I have been living with a slight vibration that started over 2 years ago that just got worse with time. Could not go over a certain speed without feeling like car was about to shake itself to death. Took car up to 115 without any vibration at all. Ok enough babling. Happy holidays!
P.S before you start this, spray engine cleaner all around area the day before-you will be happy you did.
