aftermarket radio issues....(radio buffs?)

i have a clarion cd player for the head unit. i've had it about 3 years now and it just recently stopped working. now, when i snap the faceplate on, it doesn't light up at all. almost as though the radio has no power.
i checked the stock fuse and it is good. checked the leads running to the back of the head unit. both fuses there (1 amp and 3 amp) are good. i have power to the plug at the radio. any other ideas? it would seem that the problem lies internal to the head unit since i have power to the unit itself. anything i can check on my own? or do i need to resign myself to taking in to a shop? also, is it worth having repaired or should i just go new? fwiw, i think i paid around $400 for it new (insurance settlement). it would seem that the unit should last longer than that...
thanks for any info.
