Hello,
As the owner of a '92 900S, the biggest piece of advice that I can give you is to try to back up a slope. I made the mistake of not trying this, and when i got it home and tried to back up the approximately 15 degree slope of my concrete driveway, the car popped out of reverse every 3 or 4 feet. No grinding, just a terrible annoyance and a not-so-promising look at the future of my tranny. Luckily, this can be a quick and simple fix if done by a Saab mechanic, costing around $200, but we can't always be so lucky. If the car pops out of reverse, it could be teeth broken off of the reverse gears in the gearbox, which means you need a new tranny or a lot of patience, considering you will have no reverse. Sorry so lengthy, but be careful.
