WD-40 will temporarily help your problem, but it is not the ultimate solution. Most people think of wd40 as a lubricant, and it is, but there are far better lubricants easily available. The "WD" in its name stands for "water displacement", and wd40 is quite good at that task. It displaces water because wd40 is an excellent solvent. When it encounters water, the wd-40 reacts with the h2o and the resulting chemicals are gases which float away from the original location of the water. WD-40 also dissolves rust, which tends to occur in places where water sits around on metal.
It's likely that your "sticky" door lock is being caused by a combination of water and rust. WD-40 will clear out the water and most of the rust, but these will return if nothing further is done. I have had fairly good success at dealing with sticking mechanisms (door locks, window motors, ignition locks, etc...) by flushing them out with wd40 a few times, letting them dry out, and then lubricating with white lithium grease, which will keep moisture out indefinately. (That reminds me- after 3 years, my passenger-side window is getting slow in the cold. Time to clean the electrical contacts in the switch and re-lube the motor...)
Graphite powder works well if the lock cylinder is sealed against moisture, but if the little metal flap on your lock no longer functions properly it won't keep water out.
