a cheap way of running an old car is to simple buy (or get given) the old car.. u then run it as long as u can without spending major money on it.. as soon as major money is needed u get rid of the car and get another old cheap one and run that..
now one problem u have is u cant do major repairs youself.. this is a big factor in whether its cheaper to get something "newer".. once u start having to fit new parts and pay a mechanic to do it costs go way up..
lets put it this way.. keeping a car like a classic saab on the road isnt cheap.. unless u have a source of used parts and can fix the thing yourself..
my advice to u is to keep running your car untill it goes wrong big time.. then get rid of it.. forget what might happen.. with an old car anything might happen.. thats why a lot of folks buy new ones..
your daily mileage isnt that great.. the thing might keep going for quite a long time.. daily mileage again plays a big part in all this.. the higher your daily mileage the more economic sense it makes to think about a "newer" lower mileage car..
some folks on this board are prepared to spend big money on their saabs.. things like it aint any more expensive than keeping up the repayments on a new car are are said.. well these are people who can afford a new car but run an old one cos they choose to.. this dosnt sound like u.. and it isnt me.. if i ever thought i had to spend "new car" mnoey on my "old" saab it would have to go.. i think mine is sound enough not to need major money spending on it for quite some time.. but i cant be sure.. for example the auto box could start to fail.. if this happened it would be cheaper to simply find another saab than fix the one i have..
basically nothing is certain when u run older high mileege cars.. the big trap is once u have started spending this major money on any car.. u are stuck with it.. he he.. dont spend that major money and u can get rid..
