The exact same thing happened to me last week. I was fortunate to have a spare ignition assembly, which I made to work with my existing key (those tumblers can easily be swapped). What you pulled out with the key was the internal core of the two part cylinder unit. I posted at length about my experience some 5 days ago if you care to search back. If you're at all handy with tools and such you should be able to retrieve the remaining cylinder and swap in a new one. I rate it a 3 on the 1 to 10 DIY difficulty scale. It's a common enough problem, so any SAAB shop can handle the chore.
