however, the rubber bushings and rubber belt dampen those vibrations. I think that this engineering was intended to reduce vibration in order to keep good voltage regulator brush contact without having to spring-load them so much that the brushes would wear out fast.
Also, remember that the belts are driven from the "harmonic dampener", which gets its name from its ability to filter out some of the vibration from the crankshaft. There's got to be a real-world explanation for all of this vibration-dampening stuff which could be replaced by solid metal.
