Regluing panel on '88 Convertible : Tips?

I finally brought the door from my glove box into the house today to reglue the vinyl-looking panel on the front of it. I have a '88 900T Convertible and the glove compartment door has obviously seen some water. It's still very secure, but there is some mild bubbling and a couple of the corners are peeling back. I often look over at it while I'm driving, especially when the sun is hitting it right and swear I'm going to do it that day. Well, I'm finally going to fix it. I'm just wondering a couple things:
a) What's the best way to get it off? Like I said, it's still pretty solidly attached. Is there a solvent anyone suggests? Like a thinner, maybe just soak it in water, artist's brush soap, etc? Perhaps a putty knife and gently work it off? I don't know at this point.
b) What should I use to reglue it? The consensus among those I've asked is to stay away from say an apoxy since it will probably be too thick and perhaps clumpy and prone to bubble. My thought was back to when I was into graphics design and rubber cement was the way to go to secure just about anything. Put on both surfaces, let dry and then put the two together and you were never getting the two things apart. Is that too lightweight for this? I really need something that can be applied evenly across the surface and obviously hold for 5-10 years or longer.
Bottom line, I want it to look better, not worse, than before. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
