Also avoid the common #194 5 watt bulbs, use 3 watt. Identical appearance. The 5 watters get too hot and will melt liffte dimples into your instrument cluster. The bending and cleaning recommmended by Alex and SDP will work up to a point. Then you need to fill in the dimples under the printed film circuit with JBWeld, which believe it or not, can be done through the speaker hole using a mirror. Takes awhile to get used to working with the mirror, but can be done
