Those early 79-82 turbo cars had 7:1 compression to avoid detonation. Our cars have 8.5:1 compression because of the boost control. That makes the car more drivable off boost because the extra compression really helps low end torque the most.
The cams were a bit milder as well in an effort to control boost. Since you have an APC ("late") '82 car, it's all moot. Use whatever cam is less worn! Most likely, you'll end up with the head from a later car so that cam will most likely be better unless the PO didn't changed the oil and wiped out a lobe.
By the way, I don't know how early an early '82 car has to be. I saw an '82 in the boneyard last week with a build date of 12/81. It was equipped with APC and a knock sensor.
