The greatest thing I've done in a long time... Posted by Saana88 [Email] (#207) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saana88) on Sun, 12 Jan 2003 19:55:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
To make a long story short, I converted my '88 4 door to a five speed manual last week, with the conclusion of the job on friday just after midnight. My list of thanks is being compiled. Obviously, a job like this is going to lead to further questions.
It's a wonderful feeling when you had always wanted to do this (for the last four years) and now it is done. I will be available to answer questions for others doing the job or even considering it. I am not a certified tech nor have I done any serious teardown or rebuilding in the past. I can swing a wrench and read a manual, but heavy overhauls are things I send to other people.
I am now a firm believer that the designers of this car knew what they were doing. Standard hand tools (plus an engine hoist) took apart everything in front of the firewall, between the suspension members, and above the front crossmember. I will be able to post in more detail later. I've found just one unexpected perk of the operation.
Have you ever gotten the feeling that you've done something you did not think you could do, something that was very good, and gotten a sort of high off of that feeling for a day or so? I'm there.
Once again, my list of people to thank is still being compiled. I have quite possibly learned more about this car in the last five days than I did in the previous four years. Have I been inhaling too many automotive solvent fumes, or am I supposed to feel like this?
