I'll bet that if you stick a voltmeter into the system, you'll find the voltage dropping under load.
It could be the ignition switch, but I'd first look at battery cables and alternator grounding. The alternator provides all the power requirements of the car when the engine is running, but the battery helps smooth out major power spikes. Remove the battery clamps, and clean the insides of the clamps and th outside of the battery posts with some sandpaper or Scotchbrite. Look down into the insulation on the end of the battery cables. If you see clean copper, great. If you see a bunch of white or greenish powder in the wires, replace the cable. Make sure the ground wire from the battery to chassis is in good shape, and the connection to chassis OK. Make sure the alternator connection to the engine is electrically good, and that the ground cable from the engine to chassis is (electrically) good.
With all the connections good, put a voltmeter on the battery when the engine is running. You should see above 13 volts, preferably 13.5 to 14 volts. Turn on electrical loads, light headlights, fan to high, touch the brakes (brake lights). It's normal for the battery voltage to dip, but if it dips below 13 volts, it's probably time to replace the voltage regulator and integral brushes.
