If your slave is shot and you will be replacing it, you can take a hack saw and cut through the soft aluminum piston, and pull the slave right out(in pieces!!!). This also makes clutch removal easier. BE SURE TO REMVOvE THE CLUTCH SHAFT BEFORE HACKING THE SLAVE PISTON.
As Mark suggests, the bucket handle makes a good special tool. Whether or not you are reusing this clutch assembly or replacing it, you will need the special tool to reinstall. It is easy to install the homemade spacer tool with the pressure plate out of the car. Many just set it on the ground, jack up the car, insert a piece of wood big enough to cover the spring ends and lower the car to open the pressure plate. Then just stick the wire in to hold the springs down.
I have even used a piece of baseball bat between a jack and a door jamb to open the springs(under car is better), but now have a small hydraulic press.
