I would remove the axle nut rather than undoing the inner driver boot. It's sort of a toss up.
Despite the warning not to re-use the nut, I have found early on that some dealers don't even stock the nuts, because the techs always re-use the old. I have always reused, but had problems once, when I did not use loctite. The nut worked loose and this destroyed the bearing, which relies on nut for support. Also the hub was damaged from beirg "spun" in the bearing. Since then, I have used medium strength loctite on this nut with no problems. The torque spec is +200ftlbs, which means as tight as you can get it with an 18" breaker bar pulling against your feet(not pushing with just your weight). Get it off the same way.
To remove the ball joints, 5-6 sharp whacks with a hammer on the knuckle will pop the joint after you have loosened the big nut on the stem of the ball joint. Do this before you have loosened the 2 big bolts that go through the control arms. Then remove the joints from the control arms
