Replace them all at one time. You have to align the front end when you're done anyway, and when some are worn, the others are not far behind.
Steps:
1. Buy a service manual before trying work. After an hour of hearing some senseless Beemer yuppie complain about how difficult it is to change his motor mounts when he had no idea what to do, didn't have the right tools, and never bought a service manual, I mean it. Even if you don't use it, it's got pretty pictures in it.
2. Douse all mounting bolts with penetrating oil.
3. Wait long enough for the penetrating oil to soak in.
4. Insert spring spacers under the upper A-arms.
5. Raise front end, support on jackstands. Do this to the car as well.
6. Using the right size socket and I'll strongly recommend a breaker bar, unbolt the old hardware. If a bolt is stuck you may end up drilling out one or more bolts. It sucks, but it's part of the job, especially up here in saline country.
7. Pull the old hardware out of the upper and lower A-arms. This may need some creative mechanical advantage and convincing to get them free after all these years. Be sure you do not completely pull out the inner drivers.
8. Install the new hardware. Have a torque wrench, and use it.
9. Reinstall the roadwheels, remove the spring spacers, bring her back to earth, and align the car.
10. Clean your hands.
After having to cut or drill out at least one bolt per side, you will thank yourself for doing them all now and not having to do it all again when the others wear out. By the time you start feeling slop in the front end (going around corners) the items are already dangerously worn. Stories from other posters say that if you blow one of the joints it's not pretty reassembling the thing after grinding to a halt on something that doesn't roll.
