'87 has LH 2.2 - i believe you cannot pull codes until 2.4 came out.
doubt it's your o2 sensor; it's literally out of the loop until motor is warm...
here's what's happening: the ecu gets air mass information from the amm - not the o2 sensor - when the engine is cold because the o2 sensor can't operate until warm, thus its voltage values are useless to the ecu when cold. instead, ecu uses air mass measurements to adjust fuel delivery.
a bad amm will cause a cr@ppy idle until the o2 sensor is warm enough and give info to ecu to regulate fuel mixture. this is the point where the idle smooths out.
with a bad ntc sensor, it could be sending voltage values to the ecu that make it think the car is already warm, thus the ecu doesn't give the extra fuel to the motor during warm-up (ecu adds fuel based on coolant temp).
