Although I am only at 143k, but I have had similar expereinces with my '91 900S. Yes, it has needed work, more of a maintance schedule that never ends...but that is what keeps the car running so well as time goes on. Engie never been opened, same tranny, and perfect compression.
I used Mobil 1 10/30 and change the oil every 6-7k, and filter every 3k. Coolant flushed every year with Prestone. Brakes flushed at same time, as well as power steering fluid and tranny fluid (M1 10/30).
I recently did all balljoints, tie rods, fuel filter, radiator, hoses. One thing that I did was to add an oil cooler. Took a turbo oil cooler mount, had some lines made up, and bought a heavy duty transmission cooler (3/8 inch nipple) and mounted it in front of the condenser behind the grill. It is really amazing how much cooler the oil is in the return line when things are all heated up.
