Soap shouldn't hurt it, but a steady stream of regular water should do the trick. Just be careful with the coin-op car washes' spray guns. They can be as much as 1500 PSI, and can damage the canvas if you hold it too close. In my experience with my 89 900 Turbo Convertible, I hold the sprayer about 3 ft from the car, and it does a good job. If the car wash you go to has a low pressure rinse, use that. It may take a couple extra quarters, but it'll be worth it. And for what it's worth, Don't ever use the foamy brush that the have there on your paint. I have seen people wash all sorts of things with those (like grills, and brake duse covered wheels) and then the next person that uses the brush, ruins their paint. The car wash won't be held responsible, because you use the brushes at your own risk. I know because I used to manage one of these car washes, and have seen it happen a hundred times. Sorry for the rant, hope this helps.
