Removal of front grill w/o damaging lower tabs..

Hello, all...I tried to remove the grill from my 1984 Saab today, but the lower tabs were tough to get out..So, instead of breaking them, I put the front of my Saab cack together to ask you all for advice.
Once I removed the headlight brackets, and removed the 2 side screws of the grill..There are still 5 or 6 tabs that are at the bottom..The grill slid back and forth about 1/4 of an inch, but those stubborn tabs were locked in there...They look as though they have those squeeze tab ends that " lock " it into placve once pushed down into slots.
Is my ONLY alternative to break them? think NOT!
Would needle nose pliars help to pinch them shut as I pull up on the grill?
Thnx for reading.
