It all depends on how much servicing has been done to the car. I just switched my '90 SPG to Amsoil 0W30 at 265,000 miles. I did because in the last year the trans, clutch and timing chain were all done. This meant a lot of freshly new seals were put on. I say that cuase some people have leaking issues with synth oil. I also switched because I know the old owner always kept it up on services.
I go to Lynchburg college and lately the temp has been from 10-30 degrees, I have had no extra oil consumption nor any valve tap.
Hope this helps!
