yup, no knock protection on a 99t.
but the 99T, with its low 7.2:1 compression ratio and max boost @ only 7.5 psi (i run *base boost* at 6+ on my 900), has very different operating parameters than a newer 900t motor. fair comparison?
readers may disagree with Chaz's tone, but i wouldn't be too surprised if he ends up accurately predicting the fate of "87SPG's" motor.
aaron is right about saab motor availability, however, i wonder how many saabnet readers also consider having to swap out a cooked motor with a used one to be no big proposition...
as for the knocking @ 4000 rpm without load, is your knock sensor torqued properly (11 ft/lbs)? also, the guy who's responsible for putting the tweakyourapc site up once posted that apc boxes tire as their electrical components age, resulting in strange, unpleasant boost control. at least, that is what he found from bench-testing a number of boxes.
