is it a hatchback? check in the spare tire area for moisture; should be pretty dry.
if a hatchback and wet, you may have a water leak via a flat, black, plastic, rectangular plate located at the rear of the car, beneath the bumper, on the passenger side. this piece warps over time, breaking its foam backing. when it rains, water comes on in. clean it up/dry as best you can and apply some silicone around the edges to re-seal it.
water might also be entering through an aging trunk seal.
could also be entering from the drain tube for the antenna mast, which drains into the spare tire area. but...
if the two rubber drain nipples in the bottom of the spare tire are clogged, they will trap all moisture back there. theses can be easily removed, cleaned & re-fitted.
if the drains are clogged & holding moisture, do your best to clean and dry the area out after cleaning.
if the car has lived its life in salt, it might be that there are rust holes that are allowing moisture into the car...
