Engine crankcase overfill Posted by Baab [Email] (#1214) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Baab) on Thu, 30 Jan 2003 09:07:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I recently had a rebuilt transmission installed in my '86 900S, which of course entails refilling the engine oil. When I checked the engine oil I found that it had been overfilled by at least 1 qt. (The oil was about an inch over the "Max" line on the dipstick.)
I probably should have checked this first thing on getting the car back, but unfortunately didn't. I have now drained off the excess oil (a real treat in the freezing cold and a snow-covered driveway), but had been driving around for about 500 to 600 miles with the oil level too high.
How likely is it that seals have been damaged?
