Its too bad that the relays and fuse box are under the hood of my 1988. I was thinking that the easiest protection would be to simply remove the fuel pump relay. Its a bit of a hassle though to pop the hood when you drive to the mall - it'd also be a little obvious. Here's a throught, wire a fuse or a relay to around the locale of the driver's knee Make the fuse inline with power supply to the starter. never again lock your door - in fact leave the key in the ignition and just remember to take the fuse with you. Much smaller and more convienient than a key, and theifs will wonder what the hell is wrong with your car.
