I see two problems here:
1. The bolts are hex head flange type. A real bitch to get penetrating oil under.
2. The gasket after 200k miles had 'weeped' enough water to corrode all the bolts well under the hex head flange. If (2.) is true no amount of penetrating oil is going to help.
Bottom line: Air tool would not move bolt. Put on a 1/2" with 16" handle, can off in less than 1/4 turn. After the first one the rest were pain less.................yea right. The outet side came apart easy, and the gasket looked better. I hope I never see a water pump that is part of the block again, damn, what were they thinking.
Moral: If you've had a head gasket blown, you better pray that your water pump was not damaged. It also may help to always keep water on her.
My opinion and mine alone,
Ed S
