If your leak is inside the cap, the leak is probably due to oil weeping past the internal shaft bushing. This is not practically repairable. In theory, it is conceivable that the distributor could be rebored and resleeved with a new bushing. But replacing distributor is really the answer. But since every classic 900 will experience this problem, I just periodically wipe the oil out.
If the leak is from behind the clamping plate external to the distributor, a new o-ring will fix it. Also if your car is a turbo, make sure that the one-way check valve in the hose from the intake to the valve cover is positioned to prevent pressure from the turbo from entering the valve cover. If this check valve is broken or positioned backwards, turbo pressure can force oil out the distributor and also past the valve cover gaskets.
