I've removed the dash with the steering wheel in place. Remove the plastic steering column shroud, remove the knee bolster, remove the radio, remove the instrument panel (you can leave the gauge cluster in place), and remove the vent covers/speakers.
To get the dash over the steering wheel, you need to bend the lower edge which is usually underneath the instrument panel. It will bend up without breaking.
