On a trip back from Maine recently, I realized my foglights were turning on and off intermittently. It didn't take me long to realize that the foglight switch was popping in and out as I went over bumps.

Today, with a spare switch handy, I decided to have a look at this problem. Using a flatblade screwdriver, I tried to remove the switch. It would not budge. Using a pocket knife and a flatblade screwdriver, prying from both sides, I succeeded in moving the facia panel in and out. I gave it one last shot, and then the front of the button came flying in my face (lucky I had that spare switch). In all the Saabs I've owned, I have NEVER encountered a
something like this. Unfortunately at this point the plastic collar that surrounds the switch was all boogered up too.

So I went upstairs and got needle nose pliers. When I was able to get a good grip on it and yank, only the facia panel would move. I decided to remove the far left facia panel screw. I pushed what was left of the switch into the dash and retrieved it from underneath while seperating the facia panel from the rest of the dash, and pushed the wires back up.

I looked at the switch and *SURPRISE*, the donkey that owned the car before me had wrapped electrical tape around the body of the switch in an apparent attempt to prevent the switch from popping out of the dash. While his efforts succeeded, it made any subsequent attempts of removing the switch impossible; I mean hell, he might as well have used superglue. Moral of the story: Don't tape those switches to keep them in place if you ever intend on removing them again.
