For real? It's got 200K on it?? My '95 SEt has 206K on her (but she's only been with me for 5 years---she had 19K on her when she came to live with me.) I would strenuously argue Jeff's position on the NG. As with any group of cars, you will find clinkers, but the important thing to remember, is that these cars were assembled in Sweden with mostly Swedish parts (OK--the gearboxes are German, but the engines and 95% of the rest of the cars are Swedish). So, you can't compare, say, a Cutlass to a 900. Also remember, GM has held a controlling stake in Saab since 1989, so there are C900s and 9000s out there that have GM parts stuck in them as well.As far as what to look for, maintenance is the key. Has the car been maintained? If it has, then I'd say go for it. If the records are as thin as Osama's scruples, look for another Saab. Also, who's been driving the car? If it's some 18 year old with a heavy foot (or a hand me down from parent to child), look elsewhere. The noise you hear upon startup could be many things--worn idler pulley, air pump, PS pump, the list goes on.
Good luck!!
