Excessive Rotor and Cap wear

Ok.... at first I thought that my mind was playing tricks on me because for some reason I've gone through A LOT of new rotors and caps. The problem is as such. I'll be driving along and then ever so slowly I'll notice that the car tends to hesitate a little bit. After a while I found out that the rotor and cap were getting worn down. So I'd then clean the electrical contacts and then be back on the road. After a while I'd then have to replace both the cap and the rotor just to keep the car running smoothly.
Here's where the problem really comes in... I drove up to seattle from eugene, or (about a 250 mi drive). Before I left I changed the cap and rotor and by the time I was almost back home on the return leg the car was starting to act up again.
Anyways, sorry that this has taken so long, but what could be going on here? Is there something majorly wrong with my distributer? Or am I possibly installing the cap and rotor wrong?
Thanks!
Adrian Hennig
