Trickle chargers are only 20-25 dollars. They are cheap insurance for a car that is gonna sit out the COLD winter. Cold kills batteries, as well as gradual discharge due to time and internal conduction of current. I do this and now have saved hundreds from dead batteries in my Trans Am, convertible Grand Ville, corvette, and Bonneville, as well as my Saab and my 1984 Chevy Caprice. I move from Canada to NYC and back several times a year, so a car is always sitting somewhere. This keeps my batteries fresh and tasty. I place the trickle chargers on timers, so they only run 3 hours a day. Saves on electricity costs.

The other thing you might do is disconnect the battery of ANY car that will sit for more than 2 weeks.
